Legal Eagle 5K - Running Is For The Birds! The Legal Eagle 5K is part of North Carolina Central University’s Homecoming and celebrates the 75th anniversary of the School of Law. The race will be held on NCCU Homecoming weekend at Omega Sports near Southpoint Mall. The race includes a segment of the American Tobacco Trail, and is open to ALL runners. Included in the event is a 1-mile fun run and children-specific activities including their own 100-yard dash.

RACE COURSE:
The race will be held near the Southpoint Mall area of Durham. The race will take participants on the scenic American Tobacco Trail (ATT) over the new I-40 bridge extension. The out-and-back course will start and finish at the parking lot outside of Omega Sports, located off of Renaissance Parkway in Durham, NC. The turn-around will be on the ATT, just before the intersection of Dunhill Road. This 5K course is flat except for one uphill section on the ATT just south of the I-40 bridge. The timed course will be certified by the USATF.
PARKING:
Parking will be available at the Omega Sports parking lot off of Renaissance Parkway.
PRIZES:
Omega Sports will provide prizes for the top three overall female/male winners, and age group winners.
T-SHIRTS:
Tech T-shirts will be included with your registration fee. Be sure to register before the deadline. More details to come!
FAMILY ACTIVITIES:
The Legal Eagle 5k will be a family friendly event including kids’ activities during the event and a stroller division. Specific Kids activities include a 100-yard Kids' Dash.
RACE CHARITIES:
A portion of the race profits will go to the NCCU Food Pantry and to BarCARES.
REDUCE, RECYCLE, REUSE:
The Legal Eagle 5k is an eco-friendly event. We will implement green practices, including but not limited to:
- Paper waste reduction (Online registration)
- No single use plastic water bottles
- On site recycling of old sneakers - Bring your old running shoes with you!
Packet Pickup
All runners and walkers will need to pick up their race packets prior to the event. Packets will include your race bib number (safety pins will be included), timing chip (for 5k racers only), and technical shirt. Runners will need to wear their race bib on the front of their shirt. 5k runners will be able to get their results at the end of the race at the touch-screen Kiosk and on the Precision Races website. Participates can also download the It’s Your Race app for iPhone or Android device.
